Mercer Meadows
On June 23, 2013 I met with the group from Jerry's Artarama and we painted at the Mercer Meadows Pole Farm in Lawrence Township, Mercer County. Previously this site was an important trans-Atlantic radio-telephone station. Following its acquisition by the Mercer County Park Commission in 1998, the Pole Farm has been allowed to revert to natural fields and forest. This painting was exhibited at the Bayonet Farm Arts and Music Festival. Copyright 2013 Charles Snell.

Renesmee
Painted on July 20, 2013 as an entry in the Burlington County Farm Fair plein air painting contest. A photographer from the Burlington County Times took my photo. The day was hot and humid, and I sought shelter from the sun under one of the large tents. The cow's name is Renesmee. Copyright 2013 Charles Snell.

Lambertville Station
Painted en plein air during a June 2012 weeklong painting workshop with Ken DeWaard. The scene shows the Lambertville Station restaurant and was painted from a spot along the Delaware and Raritan canal trail in Lambertville, New Jersey. Copyright 2012 Charles Snell.

Morning at Bayonet Farm
This painting was one of my entries at the Bayonet Farm Arts and Music Festival, held on September 22, 2013 in Holmdel, New Jersey. It was painted en plein air, and was awarded the "Killian's Vanishing Landscape Award." The medium density fiberboard (MDF) panel was toned with a mixture of acrylic gesso, powdered marble and a warm acrylic color. Some of the tone shows through in the foreground. Orchid Study
Here is another small floral painting. At first I was using some cobalt violet for the petals, but the hue was too cool. I mixed in some alizarin carmine to warm the tone.
