This week I painted at the Plein Air Brandywine Valley event. The painting shown is from the Frederick property (Ashland Hollow) in Hockessin, Delaware. A path leads through the woods, to a door with the word WINTER. The view through the door caught my attention. The exhibit is at Winterthur and closes Sunday October 25, 2015. (c) 2015 Charles Snell.

Burlington County Farm Fair 2015
I participated in the plein air competition at the Burlington County Farm Fair, along with two dozen talented artists. It was a two-day event, with high temperatures in the nineties. My entry "Super M" won first prize as well as a purchase prize! The photo shows Jill Rupinski (judge), myself and the new owner Matthew Edson. Many thanks to Gene D'Agostino, Denise McDaniel, Melanie Stackhouse and others who organized and volunteered for the event.

Iris
I did a study of the iris that are blooming. For the violet shades, I experimented with using cobalt violet, manganese violet, Winsor violet (dioxazine), and a mix of phthalo blue with quinacridone magenta. For this composition, Winsor violet was the best. Copyright 2015 Charles Snell.
