Lil's Walk

Lil's Walk - 8" x 10" oil on canvas

Also from the Chincoteague Plein Air Event is this painting of the sunrise over Assateague Island.  I was set up at the boat ramp and had a conversation with the owner of a cute puppy named Lil as they were taking an early morning walk.  (c) 2016 Charles Snell.

Little Darby Creek

Little Darby Creek - 16" x 12" oil on canvas
In Skunk Hollow, there is a bridge over the Little Darby Creek.  I chose the view upstream to paint.  I propped up my easel on the bridge railing and was in the shade on a hot summer day. (c) 2016 Charles Snell.

Water Wheel

Water Wheel - 12" x 16" oil on aluminum panel
At Eastern University in St. Davids, Pennsylvania there is a restored water wheel.  I tried a different painting surface this time, using an aluminum panel.  The initial block-in was done with transparent oxide red.  Some of that underpainting was left to show through. (c) 2016 Charles Snell

Valley Forge

Valley Forge - 16" x 16" oil on board
I chose one of the shelters at Valley Forge National Historic Park as my subject.  Compared with reality, my version is not as long.  I must have compressed it to fit the composition.  (c) 2016 Charles Snell.
